Chapter 91: Great Success

{TL: By Creed}

This mission had one concern.

It was that I charged ahead without waiting for Cliff’s signal.

I couldn't ignore something like that, not for a minute, not even for a second...
If I encounter a similar situation again, I think I'll act the same way.
So, I have no regrets.

No regrets, but...

Even so, if the mission failed because of me, that would be a problem, and I’d feel sorry.
We captured Doctor and Falz.
But whether we secured everyone, that’s uncertain.
With all that commotion, some might have escaped...

If that happened, it wouldn't be the outcome Cliff wanted.
Cliff aimed to capture everyone, including Doctor and Falz.

So, I was worried about the success of the mission...

"Thank you. Thanks to you and Ascart, the mission was a great success."

In the guest room of the Adventurers' Guild.
When I was called there, Cliff told me this.

By the way, Sofia wasn’t there.
Something similar might happen again, so she was with Licorice by Aisha’s side.

"A great success... does that mean there were no problems?"

"Yes, there were no problems at all. Thanks to you and Ascart, Doctor and Falz were restrained. None of their subordinates or associates escaped either. It was a perfect outcome."

"I see... that's good."

"Were you worried that charging ahead messed up the mission and we didn't get the results we wanted?"

"Ah... yeah."

I nodded honestly, thinking there was no point in hiding it.

Seeing me, Cliff smiled wryly.

"Well, to be honest, I did get a bit anxious."

"I knew it..."

"But I'm the one who put you in a tough spot on the front lines, so I won't blame you for making on-the-spot decisions. As a commander, sometimes my judgment can be slow. I always prioritize the field."

"I see... Thank you. It makes me happy to hear that."

I was prepared to be scolded or at least hear some criticism, but instead, he praised the outcome of my actions.

I felt acknowledged...
It made me genuinely happy.

It’s been a while since I felt this way.
Since when, I wonder?

"The mission was a success, but the real challenge starts now."

"What do you mean?"

"We've removed a significant part of the Guild’s upper management. Chaos is inevitable. The remaining executives might interfere, or ambitious individuals might try to take over."

"I see..."

"We have to deal with that. It’s going to be tough... but it’s not something we can avoid."

Cliff said with a defiant smile.

He talked about the upcoming challenges with a grimace, but his expression was one of excitement and determination.

He probably always wanted this outcome.
He dreamed of cleansing the Adventurers' Guild of its corruption with his own hands.

And now, that opportunity had come.

It’s going to be incredibly tough...
But he feels it’s worth the effort and is fired up.

"What will you and Ascart do next?"

"Well..."

What should we do?
It feels like we’ve done everything we can in this city.

From now on, I think we’ll be working as adventurers more seriously...
In that case, where will we be based?

Should we make this city our base?

Or, should we choose another city?

Or maybe, we’ll travel from place to place without a permanent base?

“I’m not sure yet. I’ll discuss it with Sofia later,” I said.

“Understood... In that case, I have one piece of advice.”

Cliff's expression turned serious.

“You should be careful with that beastkin girl.”

“What do you mean by that?”

“It’s not that there’s something wrong with her. I don’t think she’s a bad kid. But I feel like she’s hiding some kind of secret.”

“A secret?”

“From what I heard, Doctor was particularly obsessed with her. Unlike others, it seems he didn’t intend to sell her as a slave but had a different purpose in mind.”

“That’s true…”

At first, I thought Aisha would be sold as a slave too...

But Doctor didn’t treat Aisha as a slave.

He treated her quite respectfully…
And yet, there was a relentless determination to never let her escape.

I don’t know what Doctor was thinking.
But knowing his personality, it’s easy to imagine it wasn’t anything good.

“Is it possible that Aisha has a secret beyond our imagination?”

“Yes. I think that’s highly likely. To clarify this, I’d like to investigate her...”

“Sorry, but I have to refuse.”

Because of being captured by Doctor, Aisha had become afraid of other people.
Sofia, Licorice, and I were exceptions...
But she would scream if anyone else approached her.
Usually, she would hide behind us.

I understand the need for an investigation, but it would put a huge burden on Aisha, so it’s not possible.

“I see, that’s understandable. But once she calms down, I think it’s best to investigate. When that time comes, don’t hesitate to ask for my help.”

“Yeah, thank you.”

Cliff and I shook hands with a smile.

TL Note: The mystery behind Aisha keep getting deeper. I was busy irl so wasn't able to post new chapters.

Chapter 1: The reality that I longed for is harsh and painful {TL: By Creed} "Hey, don't stroll around leisurely, you Useless man!" Insults were flying, and the target was me. "I-I'm... sorry..." My reply came out in gasps, as it should. After all, I was carrying a load that was tens of kilos heavier than my own body. In such a state, I had been walking through the dungeon for hours without a break. It was non-stop. It was only natural that I was out of breath, my clothes drenched in sweat, as if I had been doused in water. I wondered if I was experiencing dehydration; my legs were wobbly, and I felt like I might collapse if I let my guard down. "Hurry up, you slacker! You're practically useless except for carrying stuff," Sigurd, the leader of the A-rank party 'Flarebird,' berated me. He held the title of 'Swordmaster' and was the party's main attacker, constantly in action. "Sigurd, you're such a brute. Fate is so

Chapter 4 Party formation {TL: By Creed} After that, we changed locations and moved to a different inn and restaurant. Since Sigurd and the others stayed behind, I'm not sure what happened to them, but... It seems like Sigurd took an incredibly powerful blow, so he probably won't wake up for a while. "Sister, I'll have orange juice and a parfait." "..." "What about Fate?" "..." "Fate, what's wrong?" "Huh!?" When asked the question, I snapped back to reality. "Oh, um, yeah. Sorry... um, I'll have coffee, please." "Okay. Orange juice and coffee. And a parfait, right? Please wait a moment." The waitress nodded and left. Alone again, I looked at Sofia once more. "It's been a while, Fate." "...Is it really you, Sofia?" "Yes, it's me. Or does Fate see someone else when Fate looks at me?" "No, it's not like that. I would never mistake my precious

Chapter 2 childhood friend {TL: By Creed} That was ten years ago. I had a childhood friend who was the same age as me. Her name was Sofia Ascarth. Sofia and I played together every day, and we were so close that we were always together. Every day was so much fun... Filled with smiles. I believed that this happiness would last forever back then, but... Our parting came suddenly. ―――――――――― "I'm sorry... I can't meet Fate anymore." When I tried to play as usual, Sofia had a look on the verge of tears. Did she have a fight with her parents? When I asked what was going on, that was the answer. "Huh? W-what do you mean? You can't meet me anymore..." "Due to my dad's job, we're moving to the capital. So... today will be the last time I can play with Fate." "That's... " It felt like the ground beneath me crumbled and I was falling... Such a terrible shock. "I'm sorry... I'm so sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry...
