My childhood friend, who I promised to marry in the future, came back as a swordsman

Chapter 255: Threatening the Village

{TL: By Creed}

"What's going on? You're being noisy. We have guests, you know."

"S-Sorry, Elder! But this is an emergency!"

The young beastkin looked extremely flustered.

He must have run here at full speed—he was out of breath.

"A m-monster has appeared!"

"What!?"

"And there’s a lot of them! Everyone’s trying to hold them off, but there’s not enough time to evacuate!"

"Kh... This is terrible..."

Have they never been attacked by monsters before?

Judging from the elder's grim expression, the situation must be quite serious.

If that's the case, then there's only one thing for us to do.

"Sofia."

"Yes."

Sofia felt the same way I did.

"Licorice, please stay here with Aisha and Snow."

"Yeah, yeah, leave it to me."

"Thanks, I'm counting on you."

"Fate, let’s go."

"Wait, you two, what are you...?"

To the bewildered elder, Sofia and I spoke in unison:

"We'll take down the monsters!"

 ――――――――――

We headed toward the southernmost part of the village, where the monsters had appeared.

When we arrived—it had become a battlefield.

"Don’t falter! Push them back!"

"B-But there are just too many of them..."

"Graaargh!"

"Gyaaaaah!?"

Many beastkin were fighting.

A lot of blood was being spilled.

And... a horde of monsters was closing in on them.

"Take this!!!"

A boiling anger surged within me.

I took that fury and unleashed it on the monsters.

I brought my sword down in a vertical slash.

Then swept it sideways.

Finally, I slashed upward from below.

I managed to drive back three wolf-like monsters at once.

While keeping my blade aimed at the creatures to hold them off, I shielded an injured beastkin with my back.

"Are you all right?"

"You’re...?"

"Reinforcements! Fall back for now!"

"G-Got it! You’re a lifesaver!"

I was worried they might not trust me, but it seems saving them was enough to earn it.

The injured beastkin obediently retreated to the rear.

Good.

Now, during this moment, if we can just push back the front line—

"Divine Dragon Sword Style—Blade of Vengeance..."

Sofia stepped forward.

"Flash!!!"

Sofia raised her sword high and brought it down in one mighty swing.

A colossal slash.

And overwhelming fighting spirit.

All of it exploded outward at once, blasting away the horde of monsters by the hundreds.

The monsters had no way to resist.

In an instant, their lives were reaped, and their bodies turned to dust.

From the moment Sofia arrived, their fate had already been sealed.

"...She really is amazing."

My childhood friend is a Sword Saint.

She’s mastered the blade—and as you can see, she possesses incredible power.

How many years would it take for me to stand as her equal?

Or rather… no matter how long I spent, could I even reach her level?

Sometimes, I find myself filled with those doubts and uncertainties.

But—

"I have to give it my all too."

I don’t want to give up just because she seems out of reach.

I don’t want to tell myself it’s impossible and stop moving forward.

Because…

I love Sofia.

And I want to stay by her side—forever and always.

That’s why, no matter what happens—

No matter what comes our way, I’ll just keep doing my best.

"All right!"

That said…

Right now, it’s not about me—I need to be of help to the beastkin here.

With renewed determination, I charged back into the swarm of monsters.

Chapter 1: The reality that I longed for is harsh and painful {TL: By Creed} "Hey, don't stroll around leisurely, you Useless man!" Insults were flying, and the target was me. "I-I'm... sorry..." My reply came out in gasps, as it should. After all, I was carrying a load that was tens of kilos heavier than my own body. In such a state, I had been walking through the dungeon for hours without a break. It was non-stop. It was only natural that I was out of breath, my clothes drenched in sweat, as if I had been doused in water. I wondered if I was experiencing dehydration; my legs were wobbly, and I felt like I might collapse if I let my guard down. "Hurry up, you slacker! You're practically useless except for carrying stuff," Sigurd, the leader of the A-rank party 'Flarebird,' berated me. He held the title of 'Swordmaster' and was the party's main attacker, constantly in action. "Sigurd, you're such a brute. Fate is so...

Chapter 4 Party formation {TL: By Creed} After that, we changed locations and moved to a different inn and restaurant. Since Sigurd and the others stayed behind, I'm not sure what happened to them, but... It seems like Sigurd took an incredibly powerful blow, so he probably won't wake up for a while. "Sister, I'll have orange juice and a parfait." "..." "What about Fate?" "..." "Fate, what's wrong?" "Huh!?" When asked the question, I snapped back to reality. "Oh, um, yeah. Sorry... um, I'll have coffee, please." "Okay. Orange juice and coffee. And a parfait, right? Please wait a moment." The waitress nodded and left. Alone again, I looked at Sofia once more. "It's been a while, Fate." "...Is it really you, Sofia?" "Yes, it's me. Or does Fate see someone else when Fate looks at me?" "No, it's not like that. I would never mistake my precious...

Chapter 3 Escape from the current situation and reunion {TL By: Creed} "What's going on, you incompetent fool!!!" "Guah!?" Sigurd's angry voice was hurled at me, and then I was struck again. I was thrown to the floor. This place was an inn and dining hall, so there were other customers present. However, Sigurd had a notorious reputation as a rough adventurer, and nobody wanted to get involved. Naturally, they pretended not to notice me. However... Being a slave, even if someone with good intentions were to stand up for me, they couldn't help me. How slaves were treated was entirely up to their master. There were no human rights. "You dropped the loot we worked so hard to get, didn't you? Hey, hey, hey! What the hell are you doing? How much do you think today's earnings have decreased because of you?" "I'm sorry... Ugh!?" I was kicked hard in the abdomen. It was a powerful blow that lifted me off the ground. It hurt. I cu...
