My childhood friend, who I promised to marry in the future, came back as a swordsman

Chapter 143: I got it

{TL: By Creed}

We browsed through several shops...
And then took a walk in the park with Sofia...

By the time we started to feel hungry, we decided it was time for lunch.

"This place is the number one recommendation in Leafland," Sofia said.
"It looks really stylish," I replied.

The place Sofia had brought me to was a restaurant specializing in fish dishes.
As we stepped inside, the delicious aroma immediately filled the air, making my stomach rumble.

"Hmm, what should I choose?"

Herb-grilled, pie-crusted, salt-baked... There were so many options to choose from. Sofia seemed to be struggling with the same decision, staring intently at the menu.

"I haven’t had the pie-crust fish in a while... But then again, a simple grilled fish is hard to pass up. However..."
"Hey, Sofia," I interrupted.
"Yes?"
"If you're having trouble deciding, why don’t we order the ones we’re both interested in and share them later?"
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah, I think it would be more fun that way."
"Alright, let’s do that then."

And with that, we made our decision.
After placing our order with the waiter, we spent some time making small talk and enjoying a relaxed atmosphere...

Soon, the food was brought to our table.

"Wow," we both said in unison.

The food in front of us looked like a beautiful painting.
Not only was it visually stunning, but the aroma was mouthwatering.
If no one else were around, I might have been tempted to just dig in with my hands.

By the way, my meal was a lunch set featuring herb-grilled fish.
Sofia ordered the pie-crusted fish set.
Both meals came with a drink, salad, bread, and dessert, making it a pretty great deal.

"Shall we...?"
"Let’s eat!"

I took a bite.
It was delicious!
The fish had been expertly prepped and seasoned...
The herbs added a nice fragrance, making it a very refined dish.
At the same time, the flavor was so appetizing that I could see myself eating a lot more.

"This place has really good food," I said.
"I'm so glad you think so. This has been a favorite place of mine since I was little," Sofia replied.
"How's your meal?" I asked.
"It's really tasty. Also, it brings back memories. It’s been a while since I’ve been here... Mmm."

Sofia smiled brightly as she ate the pie-crusted fish.
Her happiness was almost contagious, and just watching her made me feel content as well.

Yes.
I really do love Sofia.

"..."

Suddenly, I noticed Sofia looking at me.

Or rather, not at me—but at my plate.
She had a somewhat longing expression, reminding me of Aisha.
Like mother, like daughter.

"Do you want to try the herb-grilled fish?" I asked.
"Can I?"
"We did agree to share, after all. Let me just..."

I had a little mischievous idea.

I cut a piece of the herb-grilled fish and placed it on my fork.
Then, I offered it to Sofia.

"Say 'ahh.'"
"Huh?"
"Come on, 'ahh.'"
"Umm, I can feed myself..."
"Come on, 'ahh.'"
"Ugh..."

Sofia blushed, her cheeks turning pink.
Yet, she seemed somewhat expectant, her eyes sparkling.

You wouldn't guess from her usual behavior, but Sofia actually likes these kinds of cliché exchanges.
Sometimes, she looks at me like she’s hoping for it.

Honestly, I get embarrassed too, so I don’t usually do it...
But today is a special date.
I want to do anything that makes her happy.

"Here you go."
"...Ahhh."

Sofia, looking embarrassed, gently took the fork into her mouth.

"How is it? Tasty?"
"...I was too nervous to really taste it."
"Are you that nervous?"
"Of course! Having you feed me like that... Is this heaven?"

She looked completely blissful.
I thought she was being a bit dramatic...

But, what if Sofia were to feed me like that?
Yeah.
I’d probably react the same way.
Maybe it’s not that exaggerated after all.

"In that case, should I keep feeding you like this?"
"N-No, it's too embarrassing. Just share the food normally, please..."
"But I’d like to keep doing the 'ahh' thing."
"Hmph..."

Sofia pouted, sticking out her lips in a sulky manner.
Then, she grinned mischievously, the corners of her lips curling up.

Uh oh.
It feels like I've triggered a dangerous switch...

"Hey, Fate," Sofia said, leaning forward, bringing her face closer to mine.
Close enough that our lips might touch...

W-Why is this happening?!
My heart was racing uncontrollably.

"You’ve got some sauce on your face," she said.
"Huh?"
"...Mmm."

And then she licked my cheek.

With a strangely seductive gesture, Sofia moved her tongue...
Then she swallowed the bit of sauce she had licked off.

"Hehe, it tastes like Fate," she teased.
"U-Uh... Uh..."

My face was burning up.
I couldn't look at Sofia directly, and my eyes kept darting away.

Seeing me like that...

"Hehe, you’re so cute, Fate."

Sofia said that with a mysterious, almost teasing smile.
I still couldn’t compete with her.
With a sigh, I looked up at the ceiling, resigning myself to defeat.

Chapter 1: The reality that I longed for is harsh and painful {TL: By Creed} "Hey, don't stroll around leisurely, you Useless man!" Insults were flying, and the target was me. "I-I'm... sorry..." My reply came out in gasps, as it should. After all, I was carrying a load that was tens of kilos heavier than my own body. In such a state, I had been walking through the dungeon for hours without a break. It was non-stop. It was only natural that I was out of breath, my clothes drenched in sweat, as if I had been doused in water. I wondered if I was experiencing dehydration; my legs were wobbly, and I felt like I might collapse if I let my guard down. "Hurry up, you slacker! You're practically useless except for carrying stuff," Sigurd, the leader of the A-rank party 'Flarebird,' berated me. He held the title of 'Swordmaster' and was the party's main attacker, constantly in action. "Sigurd, you're such a brute. Fate is so

Chapter 4 Party formation {TL: By Creed} After that, we changed locations and moved to a different inn and restaurant. Since Sigurd and the others stayed behind, I'm not sure what happened to them, but... It seems like Sigurd took an incredibly powerful blow, so he probably won't wake up for a while. "Sister, I'll have orange juice and a parfait." "..." "What about Fate?" "..." "Fate, what's wrong?" "Huh!?" When asked the question, I snapped back to reality. "Oh, um, yeah. Sorry... um, I'll have coffee, please." "Okay. Orange juice and coffee. And a parfait, right? Please wait a moment." The waitress nodded and left. Alone again, I looked at Sofia once more. "It's been a while, Fate." "...Is it really you, Sofia?" "Yes, it's me. Or does Fate see someone else when Fate looks at me?" "No, it's not like that. I would never mistake my precious

Chapter 2 childhood friend {TL: By Creed} That was ten years ago. I had a childhood friend who was the same age as me. Her name was Sofia Ascarth. Sofia and I played together every day, and we were so close that we were always together. Every day was so much fun... Filled with smiles. I believed that this happiness would last forever back then, but... Our parting came suddenly. ―――――――――― "I'm sorry... I can't meet Fate anymore." When I tried to play as usual, Sofia had a look on the verge of tears. Did she have a fight with her parents? When I asked what was going on, that was the answer. "Huh? W-what do you mean? You can't meet me anymore..." "Due to my dad's job, we're moving to the capital. So... today will be the last time I can play with Fate." "That's... " It felt like the ground beneath me crumbled and I was falling... Such a terrible shock. "I'm sorry... I'm so sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry...
