My childhood friend, who I promised to marry in the future, came back as a swordsman

Chapter 300: Licorice's Great Adventure

{TL: By Creed}

Licorice left the lord’s mansion and floated lightly through the air above the town.

Fairies were a rare species.

If she showed herself in public without Fate and Sofia around, she might get captured.

At least, Licorice did have the sense to consider that level of danger.

“Now then, I wonder if there’s any information about the lord lying around somewhere?”

She didn’t have time to go around questioning people one by one.

Even if she did, who knew how long it would take to finally reach someone who actually had the right information?

It would be much faster to eavesdrop on people’s conversations instead.

She could gather rumors about the lord…
and not just that—there might even be someone quietly speaking the truth.

Because that sometimes happened, it was a fairly effective method.

“Hehe, Licorice-chan Ears can pick up any conversation there is!”

Even though she was alone, Licorice struck a smug pose.

Maybe she was the kind of race that couldn’t survive without getting carried away.

“Hmmm…”

She used magic to amplify her hearing.
Then, she filtered out unnecessary information and selected only what she needed.

And so, hovering above the town, she began eavesdropping on people’s conversations—

“Caw! Caw!”

“Eek!? H-hey, don’t scare me like that!?”

Attacked by a crow, Licorice hurriedly used magic to drive it away.

It had probably mistaken her for food.

“Honestly, how rude. To see such a cute Licorice-chan and think I’m food. Or maybe… did it think of making me its wife? Even other species are charmed by me… heh, what a sinful woman I am.”

With no one around to play the straight man, there was nobody to stop Licorice.

“Alright then, back to it, back to it.”

Licorice resumed eavesdropping.

Today’s weather.
A child who wouldn’t listen no matter what.
The economy being bad and making it hard to earn money.

She heard all kinds of conversations, but there was little information related to the lord.

“Hmmm, I want something a bit more concrete. I guess I need to filter more carefully.”

Licorice activated additional magic.

She added a condition: deliver only the conversations she wanted, and discard everything else.

Normally, even fairies couldn’t use magic like that…

…but Licorice was special.

In truth, she was extremely capable.

When it came to magic, her skill ranked among the very best in the world.

…Though her usual behavior stripped her of any sense of dignity.

“Oh? This one sounds promising.”

Catching a particular conversation, Licorice’s expression brightened.

She couldn’t tell the exact location, but it was coming from the northern part of town…
from a residential area.

Multiple voices.
They seemed to be arguing about something, and things were heating up—their voices were loud.

If this keeps up, it’ll be too late…
At this rate, the town’s economy will collapse…
That man only thinks about himself…
In the worst case, we may have to consider taking up arms going forward…

“Hehe… sounds like they’re talking about something interesting.”

Licorice grinned and flew toward the northern residential district.

My childhood friend, who I promised to marry in the future, came back as a swordsman.

Chapter 1: The reality that I longed for is harsh and painful {TL: By Creed} "Hey, don't stroll around leisurely, you Useless man!" Insults were flying, and the target was me. "I-I'm... sorry..." My reply came out in gasps, as it should. After all, I was carrying a load that was tens of kilos heavier than my own body. In such a state, I had been walking through the dungeon for hours without a break. It was non-stop. It was only natural that I was out of breath, my clothes drenched in sweat, as if I had been doused in water. I wondered if I was experiencing dehydration; my legs were wobbly, and I felt like I might collapse if I let my guard down. "Hurry up, you slacker! You're practically useless except for carrying stuff," Sigurd, the leader of the A-rank party 'Flarebird,' berated me. He held the title of 'Swordmaster' and was the party's main attacker, constantly in action. "Sigurd, you're such a brute. Fate is so...

Chapter 4 Party formation {TL: By Creed} After that, we changed locations and moved to a different inn and restaurant. Since Sigurd and the others stayed behind, I'm not sure what happened to them, but... It seems like Sigurd took an incredibly powerful blow, so he probably won't wake up for a while. "Sister, I'll have orange juice and a parfait." "..." "What about Fate?" "..." "Fate, what's wrong?" "Huh!?" When asked the question, I snapped back to reality. "Oh, um, yeah. Sorry... um, I'll have coffee, please." "Okay. Orange juice and coffee. And a parfait, right? Please wait a moment." The waitress nodded and left. Alone again, I looked at Sofia once more. "It's been a while, Fate." "...Is it really you, Sofia?" "Yes, it's me. Or does Fate see someone else when Fate looks at me?" "No, it's not like that. I would never mistake my precious...

Chapter 3 Escape from the current situation and reunion {TL By: Creed} "What's going on, you incompetent fool!!!" "Guah!?" Sigurd's angry voice was hurled at me, and then I was struck again. I was thrown to the floor. This place was an inn and dining hall, so there were other customers present. However, Sigurd had a notorious reputation as a rough adventurer, and nobody wanted to get involved. Naturally, they pretended not to notice me. However... Being a slave, even if someone with good intentions were to stand up for me, they couldn't help me. How slaves were treated was entirely up to their master. There were no human rights. "You dropped the loot we worked so hard to get, didn't you? Hey, hey, hey! What the hell are you doing? How much do you think today's earnings have decreased because of you?" "I'm sorry... Ugh!?" I was kicked hard in the abdomen. It was a powerful blow that lifted me off the ground. It hurt. I cu...
