My childhood friend, who I promised to marry in the future, came back as a swordsman

Chapter 326: Taking the plunge

{TL: By Creed}

"What’s wrong?"

Cliff noticed my hesitation and looked at me curiously.
He was munching away on the donuts he had ordered extra.

He didn’t look dignified at all…
But I knew he was actually an incredibly capable and amazing person.

Yeah.
I don’t know how this will turn out, but I’ll try talking to him.

"I have something important to discuss."

"Hmm."

Cliff put on a serious expression…
…and then took a big bite of another chocolate donut.

"Um… it’s a serious matter, you know."

"I know. But you see, when you talk about serious things, you use your brain, right? And when you use your brain, you need sugar. That’s why I’m eating donuts like this. Nom."

He said it like it made perfect sense, but… is that really true? I couldn’t help but doubt it.

"So, what’s this about?"

"Ah, yes. It’s going to be a bit long, but actually…"

I explained, to some extent, about the Alliance of Dawn.

I left out the part about the ancient gods.
I felt that explaining that would only make it sound suspicious.

So instead, I told him that there was a terrorist organization plotting to overthrow the royal capital…
and that they were mass-producing dangerous weapons known as magic swords.

"…Hmm."

As if his usual carefree attitude was a lie, Cliff turned serious.

…Though even in that state, he still didn’t stop eating donuts.

"I never expected to hear about the Alliance of Dawn from you, Stuart."

"Eh? You mean you already knew about them?"

"Not as much as you do, but to some extent… yes."

According to Cliff…

After firmly establishing his position as guild master, he had begun reforming the association.
Unlike his predecessor Eisen, he didn’t rush—he carried things out slowly but steadily.

Thanks to that, the association gradually regained its ability to self-correct.
His achievements were recognized, and he rose high enough to be invited to meetings of the association’s executives.

"I don’t really want to get promoted, though."

He said that with a laugh.

Anyway, getting back on track…

Through attending those meetings and gathering information, he apparently began to notice signs of the Alliance of Dawn.
They had even infiltrated the Adventurers’ Association…
and were operating behind the scenes in various places.

"They were even making contact with high-ranking officials in the association, so I thought they were just some newly emerging dangerous group… but I see. They’ve actually existed for quite a long time—and are extremely dangerous."

"You sound pretty casual about it."

"Even so, I am quite surprised. Besides… I’ve also been hearing reports about those magic swords."

Cliff’s expression turned grim.

"It’s been coming up more often within the association lately. But since someone is pulling strings behind the scenes, we haven’t been able to launch a full investigation."

"So it’s gotten that serious…"

The fact that they had infiltrated even the Adventurers’ Association…
It really showed just how cunning the Alliance of Dawn was.

"So… after telling me all that, what do you want to do, Stiat?"

"I want your cooperation."

"Cooperation?"

"The headquarters of the Alliance of Dawn is here—in the royal capital."

"…Is that true?"

"Yes."

I nodded firmly. I couldn’t afford to let him doubt me here.

"It’s reliable information."

"I see… So, to strike at the Alliance of Dawn—or rather, no, you haven’t located their exact base yet. You lack detailed information. And that’s why you want my help, correct?"

"Y-Yes."

As expected, Cliff was quick-witted.
He had said everything I was trying to say.

"If we leave this alone, who knows what will happen… I want to stop it before that."

"So you intend to take them down?"

"Yes. Will you help me?"

"Sorry, I can’t."

He refused—just like that.

TL Note: Refusal.

My childhood friend, who I promised to marry in the future, came back as a swordsman.

Chapter 1: The reality that I longed for is harsh and painful {TL: By Creed} "Hey, don't stroll around leisurely, you Useless man!" Insults were flying, and the target was me. "I-I'm... sorry..." My reply came out in gasps, as it should. After all, I was carrying a load that was tens of kilos heavier than my own body. In such a state, I had been walking through the dungeon for hours without a break. It was non-stop. It was only natural that I was out of breath, my clothes drenched in sweat, as if I had been doused in water. I wondered if I was experiencing dehydration; my legs were wobbly, and I felt like I might collapse if I let my guard down. "Hurry up, you slacker! You're practically useless except for carrying stuff," Sigurd, the leader of the A-rank party 'Flarebird,' berated me. He held the title of 'Swordmaster' and was the party's main attacker, constantly in action. "Sigurd, you're such a brute. Fate is so...

Chapter 4 Party formation {TL: By Creed} After that, we changed locations and moved to a different inn and restaurant. Since Sigurd and the others stayed behind, I'm not sure what happened to them, but... It seems like Sigurd took an incredibly powerful blow, so he probably won't wake up for a while. "Sister, I'll have orange juice and a parfait." "..." "What about Fate?" "..." "Fate, what's wrong?" "Huh!?" When asked the question, I snapped back to reality. "Oh, um, yeah. Sorry... um, I'll have coffee, please." "Okay. Orange juice and coffee. And a parfait, right? Please wait a moment." The waitress nodded and left. Alone again, I looked at Sofia once more. "It's been a while, Fate." "...Is it really you, Sofia?" "Yes, it's me. Or does Fate see someone else when Fate looks at me?" "No, it's not like that. I would never mistake my precious...

Chapter 3 Escape from the current situation and reunion {TL By: Creed} "What's going on, you incompetent fool!!!" "Guah!?" Sigurd's angry voice was hurled at me, and then I was struck again. I was thrown to the floor. This place was an inn and dining hall, so there were other customers present. However, Sigurd had a notorious reputation as a rough adventurer, and nobody wanted to get involved. Naturally, they pretended not to notice me. However... Being a slave, even if someone with good intentions were to stand up for me, they couldn't help me. How slaves were treated was entirely up to their master. There were no human rights. "You dropped the loot we worked so hard to get, didn't you? Hey, hey, hey! What the hell are you doing? How much do you think today's earnings have decreased because of you?" "I'm sorry... Ugh!?" I was kicked hard in the abdomen. It was a powerful blow that lifted me off the ground. It hurt. I cu...
